Even though the Magic Jack Terms of Service refers to an uninstall option within Add/Remove programs, you will find that it does not exist. Stuff like this frustrates me to no end and makes me instantly and irrevocably suspicious. Programs and devices that do not provide a user-friendly method for removal project an attitude of laziness, disrespect, and fly-by-night onto the company that provides them.
Here is what to do if you want to remove MagicJack from your computer forever. I assume you are running Windows XP.
1) Unplug the Magic Jack device from your computer. This should remove the virtual devices that MagicJack installs:
2) Delete the "mjusbsp" directory from the following location: C:\Documents and Settings\[YourUserProfileName]\Application Data
3) Delete any MagicJack directories from the following location: C:\Documents and Settings\[YourUserProfileName]\Local Settings\Application Data
4) Delete any desktop icons
5a) Clean up your registry using a registry cleaning tool. I highly recommend TuneUp Utilities 2008. Among many other features, it will keep your registry sparkling clean.
5b) Clean up your registry manually. Use regedit to locate the HKEY Current User > Talk4Free entries and Delete the Talk4Free Key and all Subkeys.
6) Reboot and you should be all set.
** UPDATES ** - mostly from user posting in the comments
How to uninstall from Windows Vista:
"To uninstall from vista, simply go to the search bar and look up "mjusbsp". Right click and open explorer. Delete whole folder. Use CCleaner (free) to clean rest up. That easy. Vista isn't perfect, but things like the search function rock."
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Tiger Jet Network, Inc.
They're jackoffs because they charged my debit card 25 days into the 30 day trial period - bouncing two checks in the process... Yes I know it's a no-no giving out debit card #'s on the internet - but a $1.2 million dollar heart attack - 2month coma wiped out my credit as well as my health (mold from a water leak shut down my liver! JEEZE! WRONG LOTTERY! THANKS JEEBUS!) Anyway - back to the point... Not only did they break their contract with me - they are dragging their heels in giving me a refund number - probably hoping they can say that I went over their 30 days trial period by not returning their product in a timely fashion. I'm at 31 days as of this post... And they still have yet to give me my refund number. I had to go through the hassle of disputing this directly with my bank... PAIN IN THE ARSE!!! Besides all that - most everyone I called received a wicked echo or couldn't hear me unless I was shouting... I was going to cancel in due course anyway.
Hey MagicJackOffs - Your product and customer service sucks the big one! Get a life!!!
Hasta la fuego, MajicJackOffs - POS!
After six tries with nothing but BS, wouldn't give me someone else who could help, no supervisors available, no phone to call...really bad PR in my mind, end result, after all the BS then their only answer was that they are doing upgrades.
Upgrades for two weeks, into the third week and still not functioning. Past 30 days so no money back and DON'T CALL after 5:00...you get Ahmid and Shid who don't do anything including trying a sentence so you can read.
If you think you want this, save your money...it doesn't work and they don't care.
Delete the ".magicfix" directory from the following location: C:\Documents and Settings\[YourUserProfileName]\
Thanks!
It worked fine for me for about 3 Months and now It Was working fine for about 2 months then Certain numbers it gives me Busy Signal 3 times then it hangs up. You can not call them u only have to use their CHAT online. After talking to them for over 2 hours of uninstalling, Reinstalling, Cleaning the Registry, Rebooting, Trying on another PC Nothing worked. I do receive calls, i can make call to cretin number but allot of LOCAL number don't work. According to Magic Jack I am Dialing the Wrong number??and maybe the other party is using the phone bullshit.
I checked online and saw other people had the same problems.

Seriously, it's the comments about magicJack going bad after a few months that scare me. I'm bookmarking this web site just in case....
http://www.seflorida.bbb.org/BBBWeb/Forms/Utils/Co...=
The only complaint I have so far is that people on the other end sometimes hear echoes and weird noises. I don't hear these; on my end the sound quality is very good.
i can't belive a company would treat their customers this way. i have been on the phone for 5 hrs this afternoon and the morons on the other end can't make good english. this is pathetic. i received it today it will be going back tomorrow. everything works fine except that every second, i mean every second you get a gap in the voice stream. its almost like a tick except there is no sound. don't delete the files they ask you to they are just stalling and giving you the run around. please don't buy this, save yourself!
Despite these problems, I still think it was well worth the 40 bucks, but it won't be replacing my landline phone.
Switch is limited since all is LEASED.
Good info on cleaning out MagicJAK-Off software, if you your check outgoing out bound streams you will see that software is "calling home" all brouser use site visits at least 3 times a day if you keep on 7/24.
info is sent out every time you make a call,
Very interesting info from the TigerJet SDK, this device is used in Asia and it costs $4.00 in 5K lots I wonder if we can do some thing better with them, got one to reg with my ast* switch using SDK (after clearing out the majic)
works like a charm at least until now.
The problem is that all their 'fixes' don't fix nothin'. Their customer service also sucks with a bunch of head cases who can't, don't, won't read what you send them in the 'live help' who just follow a book and tell you the same stupid stuff over and over.
One person told me that what I have stated will be in the computer for the next person to read. Bull---- because they haven't a clue. No stupivisor on site, the are a free phone service but have no number for you to call, don't care about your situation and have no answers at all.
They told me on one session that I needed a plug-in USB unit (ac power) because a regular one doesn't do well. No matter where I plug in, direct to my computer, USS or powered USB still the same. Even upgraded Comcast (yeah, sorry) to 12 down and 2 up, same junk. It works, doesn't work, restart it five or six times a day, come home it's out, no dial tone, even people tell me they call and get nothing.
It always seems their pat answer is, "we're upgrading, call back tomorrow" because the asshole on line doesn't know what is where.
So if you just bought it, send it back. If you had it over 30 days like me, tough shit because you will find that it works at times and most times it doesn't.
I tell everyone I see, don't even try it because it screws with your computer, your head and your wallet. They have a very long way to go to even be worth the $47.00 so for those who say, hey it's on $20.00 I ask, "Where did you get a free unit?"
Couldnt get it to work. Got a person called called "Debbie" in a computer chat to help me to walk me through. That was a joke.
I asked them if I could call them to speed things up and even offered to give them my cell number for them to call me. They never did. ( I guess their Magic Jack did not work on their end either)
When I ordered it from a TV add from their 800 number it was all voice mail. No real person to talk to or to ask questons of.
That was a red flag but I ignored it. (You gotta suspect a free phone deal where there is only a computer voice mail on the other end when you call their 800 number)
BTW, if you want a refund you need to get a refund number from the company before you ship it back. They want your Email and your credit card number to give you the refund number.
What an idiot outfit.
I hope I did not get some hidden virus or worm when I installed their product.
$39 is no thing for me for this 5 months. if a Use phone cards or an other long distance provider it will cost more .
I love this product, it s realy a magic product. may be there some jalous people hwo doesnt like others to get payed for there work.
any way I will not uninsttal it . and pay 6$ monthly fee, plus 0.09cents/ minute to call europ or long distance . noway.
In the end I decided to order one to try. I run Windows Vista.
It arrived in about 5 days. I unpacked it and followed the directions, plugging it into one of my USB ports - nothing. I then tried another port. This time the blue light came on but no functionality. Tried a third USB port and it started.
Finished the installation (ran the Vista upgrade) and tried a few calls. It worked OK, one call had static, another could not hear me clearly.
The next day when I 'woke' my system Magic Jack did not run. Unplugged it and plugged it back in. It then started OK. I went to the Magic Jack website and ran the 'Fix-It' program which is basically just a compatibility check. It told me all was OK. Later in the day I had the same problem with Magic Jack not working. This time I had to re-start my system. It still would not work. Only by unplugging it and then plugging it back in could I get it to work.
The following day both Internet Explorer and my email programs started to become unresponsive. I unplugged Magic Jack and restarted my system. I then plugged Magic Jack back in and it started OK. The phone calls I made did work fine with only a bit of static on some lines.
The third day I again started to have my programs become unresponsive. I again repeated yesterday's steps to get it working. This time I decided to contact Support through their 'Live chat' feature. After explaining the issues I was having, the agent instructed me to unplug Magic Jack, disable my firewall and anti-virus, and then plug it back in. It started and I resumed both my antivirus and firewall protection.
The fourth day I again started to have my programs become unresponsive. I unplugged Magic Jack, restarted my system and went to their website to return the product - I had had enough. I selected the link for 'Returns' and it took me to the 'Fix-It' program. This time, about 3/4 through the check, my browser stopped working completely. I had to re-launch it and go back through the steps. I did this three times and each time I got to the same part of the 'Fix-It' program, it would cause Internet Explorer to stop working completely. The next time, I decided to reach the Live Chat support. I managed to by-pass the 'Fix-It' program and connect with a support agent.
I told him what was happening and asked for instructions on how to return Magic Jack. He provided a link for Returns - the minute I selected it I was put back into the 'Fix-It' program which again caused my browser to stop and of course, end the session.
I again connected with a support agent, explaining what just happened, and again asked for the return procedure. This time he gave me a different link which took me to an RMA form, already pre-printed with my information with instructions to Print and return in two weeks in order for my card to not be charged.
In conclusion, Magic Jack may work well for a lot of people but they clearly have software compatibility issues with Windows Vista.
TX!
Doug
but having worrys . i am a professtional computer hackere i
can see if i can hack into the the magic jack and change some
code and registery errors if any and if i do i will compress the
software in the magic jack and post it on drop.io.com i will
provide link later and instructions on how to put the new
software on to the magic jack !
I have it, and have no problems with it. Sucks that the PC has to be on, but otherwise it works as advertised. I don't know what all you cry babies are really talking about. It came in a few days, worked right out of the box. Most of you posting here are probably not very tech savvy and your PCs were messed up to begin with (because you don't know what the hell youre doing). Good luck to you. MAGIC JACK RULES !
which is false advertisement! If anyone has seen the recent Television spots, they guarantee that you will keep your number for life,
but in the terms and agreement, they can change whenever and as often as they like, it also states that they can sell your personal info to anyone
in the world, but the customer service guarantees that would never happen, then why is it in writing that they can? The terms and agreement also
state they can change the terms and agreement whenever they want, so why bother signing it? The only way to conact the "customer service" is
through chat, and the only way to get a proof of your chat is to click an icon in the chat window and it will be e-mailed to you, well out of all of the chats
I had, it only worked once. I asked to have the chats e-mailed to me, they refuse that as well. I have a complaint into the FCC for the false advertisment
for the shipping charges! And they LOVE to hang up on you. Do I sound frusterated? If I could cuss, I would! I found in they were to issue a add/remove
program, which is NOT there! Which is why I am here. So thank you for the help because the magicjack people are of NO help what so ever. I also,
e-mailed every company that they have on their web page, letting them know that the majicjack is has been fale advertising, and I would think
they would not want their companies associated with GARBAGE!!!!!!!! Although it only cost me 5.00 to ship it back, that is not the point, they
PROMISED in the TV spot they would "even pay for the postage to send it back" LIARS!!!!
