Wall-E Mini Review

Just got back from seeing Wall-E and I'm not sure how I feel about it. It was unique in that there are very few words spoken throughout the entire film. There are probably only about 4 real speaking roles, with all others being 1 or 2 word repetitions.

The look of the film is absolutely gorgeous, with the high-tech aspects looking like that came directly from the Apple design team. Imagine robots designed in the style of an iPod and you'll get it. As with all other Pixar films, details abound and are a joy to take in.

The story itself, while exciting, seems rather thin. There's no a whole lot of substance especially when compared to Finding Nemo or Cars. Both of those movies contain detailed stories that have been honed to perfection. Wall-e's story is honed and sharp, but superficial and short. What makes it superficial is the number of questions that go unanswered. There is so much more you want to know about the world of the movie, but we are never given the details.

10 Years on eBay this month

Here's a snippet from my eBay profile:

Time frickin' flies. I can't believe I've been a member of a website for 10 years.

I have a great kid

I think I'm pretty modest about my kids. I am generally averse to the typical one-up-man-ship of social conversation, so I generally opt not to participate in the game. I purposefully let all of the "me too" moments pass without comment.

I am now going to temporarily step outside this self-constructed box and brag about my kid. Logan recently took a Cognitive Abilities test and scored better than 99% of 1st graders nationwide. And he's the youngest person in his class.

So there.

A Term for "No Moving Parts"

Is there a term in the English language that means "no moving parts"? Well there should be. The first thing that pops into my head is "solid state", but that is not accurate.

Does anybody know of such a term? How about "static state"?

Airborne Health Settlement Claim - Get Money Back

If you have ever purchased that Airborne stuff that supposedly keeps you from getting sick, you can get money back with NO proof of purchase required! You can file a claim online in about 5 minutes.

I never understood the marketing for that product. "Invented by a 2nd Grade school teacher!" Like that is supposed to be some sort of worthy endorsement. What sort of expertise does a 2nd Grade school teacher have that a 20-year professional scientist at Pfizer or Merck doesn't have?

"I teach 2nd grade, but I know more about human immuno-chemistry
than those so-called "researchers" at big name pharmaceutical companies."

But I digress. Go get your money back.

The Myth of the "Sugar Rush"

Finally I'm vindicated! The Straight Dope tackles my biggest social pet peeve! There is no such thing as a Sugar Rush or Sugar High. It doesn't exist, so stop perpetuating the myth!

This particular issue is a personal annoyance simply because of the sheer pervasiveness of the myth. On average, I hear somebody mention this myth at least once a day. It's usually on television, but also quite often in the real world.

So please just stop it. Ingesting sugar does not change your behavior or give you a "rush" of any kind... except for the placebo effect generated from all your years of brainwashing and ignorance.

Journey to The Center of The Earth

I just finished reading this book to my son last night. It was an Illustrated Classic version, which is significantly abridged with illustrations on every page. I really enjoyed the experience, and Logan liked the story. I can't wait to pick something else to read to him. I want to go with something that has a lot of interesting situations and adventures.

I'm not sure if it is Jules Verne or just the abridgement, but nothing really seemed to happen in "Jouney to The Center of The Earth". Fully 90% of the book involved a general description of the party traveling through caves. There was really no pay off.

I think I'm going to try something like Robinson Crusoe next. I'm also going to try to find a version that is a little less abridged.

Tracfone Minutes Update

Wow! I just discovered that Tracfone is now TRIPLING their 60-minute cards when you use the code I blogged about in a previous post.

I bought a 60-minute card for $10 and it gave me the following when I activated it just now:

Tic-Tac Containers Made of New Plastic

In other news, I've just discovered that the makers of Tic-Tacs have changed the plastic they use to create their Tic-Tac vessels. This must be some sort of milestone of minty history.

After finishing my Tic-Tacs I can always look forward to munching on the box for some nice, loud cracks as the brittle plastic crumbles under the brutal force of my pearly choppers. But alas, those days are over. The new plastic is much more malleable, and no longer shatters into lethal shards of Tic-Tac death under pressure.

Ooine.com has switched over to BlogCFC

I made the switch in order to, you know... get hip with the times. Get groovy with the community. Keep on keepin on. Stayin' on the edge. Gettin' with the program. And so forth.

I'll tell you, I miss FCKEditor that was included in BlogFusion (my old blog software). :( But I do like the pod functionality that BlogCFC offers. However, I can't seem to figure out how to get javascript to work within a pod. Not sure if it's possible.

Anyway. Maybe now I'll post more in order to give BlogCFC a proper test run.
